De-shed Groom

What to expect from a de-shed dog groom

A de-shed groom is for dogs whose undercoat is coming out faster than you can hoover it up. Rather than a clip, we concentrate on getting the loose, dead hair out, so your dog feels lighter and your sofa gets a break.

Your dog is washed in one of our two hydrobaths, dried and brushed out, then given a light tidy where it's needed. As with every groom at The Groom Pad, it's one to one and completely free from cage and cabinet dryers.

Which dogs need a de-shed groom?

De-shedding is for dogs with a double coat: a soft, dense undercoat under the top coat. Breeds like huskies, German shepherds, collies, golden retrievers and labradors shed that undercoat heavily, especially as the seasons change.

Brushing out the loose undercoat lets air reach the skin and keeps the coat doing its job. That's why a de-shed concentrates on brushing out rather than clipping.

Questions

De-shed dog groom: your questions answered

What's the difference between a de-shed and a full groom?

A full groom includes a clip and style. A de-shed concentrates on brushing out the loose, dead hair, with only a tidy of the skirt, pants, hocks and paws if they need it.

Are nails included?

Yes, nails are trimmed as part of every de-shed groom.

How much is a de-shed groom?

It depends on your dog's breed, size, coat type and condition, so we quote each dog properly rather than guess. Give us a ring on 01392 979 173 and we'll give you a straight answer.

How can I help with shedding between visits?

Brush your dog regularly with an undercoat rake or slicker brush, and more often while they are shedding heavily. Little and often keeps on top of the loose hair and stops it matting.
