💅 Pawdicure time

Dog nail trimming in Exeter

The pawdicure your dog deserves.

The honest answer

Is cutting a dog's nails painful?

If done correctly, cutting a dog's nails should not be painful. However, if you cut the nail too short you can hit the quick — the sensitive part of the nail that contains blood vessels and nerves. That can be painful for your dog and may result in bleeding.

It's important to use sharp, high-quality clippers and to take your time when trimming, to avoid injuring them. Which is exactly what we do.

A good rule of thumb for timing: clip them as soon as they're touching the ground.

Why it matters

The benefits of trimming your dog's nails

Regular nail trimming provides a number of benefits for your dog's health and wellbeing.

Reduced risk of injury

Long nails can get caught on things and tear, which can be painful and lead to infection. Trimming helps prevent this.

Improved mobility

Overgrown nails can affect your dog's gait and cause joint pain. Keeping them trimmed helps their mobility and overall comfort.

Less scratching

If your dog's nails are too long they can scratch and damage furniture, carpets and other household items.

Better hygiene

Regular trimming helps prevent ingrown nails and infections, which can be painful and may require medical attention.
